Welcome to First Grade! This is a very special year in your child’s school career. First grade is naturally a time of tremendous academic, social and emotional growth. It is a time when children’s curiosity about the world around them flourishes.

During the second semester, the first graders will learn the long vowel sounds and study the weather and land forms. Your child will learn how to read, write sentences, add, and so much more.

HERE ARE SOME GOOD WEBSITES TO HELP: – math games by grade level – math and reading games – math and reading games – math, reading, and science games

Math . . . . . . .two worksheets a week.

Reading . . . . have your child read 10 minutes every night.

Vocabulary . .new words for the following week’s story will come home on Fridays, please have your child practice reading these words.

Spelling . . . . study words for weekly spelling test

Children take things home in three ways:

In their hands, in their heads, and in their hearts.
