Caitlin Putnam – Kindergarten

Thank you for choosing JFK for your child’s Educational Adventure! We are so excited to start the year with your kiddos! Mrs. Moya and I look forward to meeting each of you and helping your children learn to LOVE learning! We like to have a lot of fun in the classroom and are excited to get the year started!

I am so happy that we can include Jesus Christ in everything we do inside and outside of the classroom! I make it very clear that Jesus is with us everywhere we go and and it’s OKAY for us to call upon Him in our times of need or distress! Kindergarten is a big step not only for the kids but for you parents as well! I am truly thankful for the opportunity to work with not only your children, but with the parents. PLEASE if at anytime you are confused, concerned, or just worried, contact me, express your concerns, let me know what is being said at home, I will help you understand and even clarify things for you! We are a team in this adventure, no one has to do this alone! :)

Academics:

We are using the reading series, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journeys Series. It was new two and we LOVE it. We will be doing a lot of learning with the interactive whiteboards and we will be doing a lot of hands on learning during our kindergarten journey! I will try to post monthly what we will be working on and sending home a parent letter from the series that gives you helpful ideas of things to work on at home. I have also spent a great deal of time preparing and purchasing NEW ELA and MATH Centers to be used within the classroom during our protected ELA and MATH times. These center range from identifying numbers, letters, colors, to counting, matching, building words, and so much more! I just can’t wait!!

HOME WORK:

Your child will have homework everynight except for Friday. Reading homework will go home every night. I will be using a weekly activity sheet that follows our reading curriculum. Each activity for each night is very short and is a review of the week’s lesson. In addition to this they will also have an additional reading sheet on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a math sheet on Mondays and Wednesdays. The math sheet will Usually be from the GoMath practice book and will be a review of what we covered in class that day. Please send homework back to school the next day in your child’s folder. Homework is a great review of what we are working on in the classroom, and we really appreciate you taking the time to work on it at home with your child.

Mass

We attend mass every Wednesday from 8:00-8:45. We sit with our 6th grade buddies during mass, who help us to sit still, hold our music and song books, and pretty much anything else we need. The sixth graders are great examples of how we need to behave while we are in the church. We will also attend mass on any Holy Days of Obligation that school is in session for, you may check the olvjfk.com website to see when those days are going to be.

Scholastic book orders:

You can order books online from scholastic book orders whenever you would like. I will check the scholastic website during the middle of the month to submit any orders that been placed. Once I submit the orders they will be shipped directly to school and ususally take about a week to arrive. I will also be sending home scholastic flyers in your child’s take home folder so feel free to order from the flyer as well.

A Little About Me!

This is my sixth year teaching at J.F.K, and my fourth year teaching Kindergarten. I am a 2010 graduate of St. Ambrose University where I majored in Elementary Education with endorsements in both reading and language arts. After graduating from Ambrose I took a job teaching preschool in Blue Grass with the Head Start program. While teaching for Head Start I took classess to earn my Early Childhood Endorsement. I am currently enrolled in classes at Morningside College working on my Master’s Degree. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband Mike and our 2 year old daughter Stella. We enjoy spending time with our family and friends, running, being outside, and watching movies.
